We are a friendly international collective of creative types who are growing adventures in captivating cities across Asia. Our team consist of professional contemporary artists, art instructors, passionate creatives, the best tour guides in town and local legends.

Is this retreat / art adventure for me?

Accepted Answer

Roaming Studios are designed for the following participants.  You are an independent type. Who can organise your own accommodation, transportation, insurance and are comfortable handling all the details of your travel outside of our adventures.
You want to enjoy a creative break and an in-depth travel experience with kindred spirits. Picking up some new skills and creating things for fun, for the process.
You have a project that's been itching at you to focus on. You can enjoy all the above, and the dedicated space and time of the Studio to focus. Every tour, workshop and outing is optional. We can set time blocks and tailor a hype-team as needed.
You are a photographer, writer, scrappy multi-media-ist, journal creator, tinkerer, urban sketcher, painter, hobbyist, crafter, simply curious, history buff, nerd.
You support one of the above!

Am I arty enough?

Many of us have had to prioritise other things above our own creativity and the enjoyment it once gave us. We may of just been 'doing capitalism' for a long time.This adventure is to remember the experience of immersing ourselves in a task that requires nothing. It doesn't need to be perfect, neat or complete. It has the calm of zero pressure, of low stakes and of simple enjoyment. Creating things is just a way to enjoy this sensation again.

Is accommodation included?

Accepted Answer

Unlike an artist residency or other retreats, accommodation is not included. We know independence, tastes and financial flexibility vary for everyone at different times in their lives.  This allows us to keep costs far below other art retreats and therefore accessible to more currencies and budgets.All our locations have ample accommodation at all levels and transport is inexpensive and easy. However - some sessions are set during high season, so booking in advance is highly recommended!

$1,200 USD. We use USD as it is the most consistent for the local currencies. This includes: studio space, art materials, workshops, tours, transits between these, yoga, some snacks and drinks. Farewell dinner.

Can I work on my own project?

Yes, you can come with your own project to focus on. Our Studio is open at lengthy hours and our schedule is optional. Enjoy the breaks of joining a tour, or have us set time blocks for you to remain committed. Your objectives for this time are our priority too.However, if you'd like to develop your practice with a dedicated instructor in your medium, we can recommend fabulous art residencies in the area.

How inclusive are you?

Roaming Studios are designing a friendly and supportive environment. We are queer friendly, neurospicy inclusive and encourage good energy, curiosity and kindness. 
We welcome contact from local artists in the region who are interested in joining, and we offer a few places at a lower rate to accomodate these different currencies. Get in touch!

Do you accept young people / children?
